It's your first day at a travel agency, and Yoko, a senior colleague on your new team, is showing you around.

  • はじめまして。

    Hajimemashite.

    Nice to meet you.

    Say it the moment you meet someone for the first time, before giving your name.

  • 高橋たかはしと申もうします。

    Takahashi to mōshimasu.

    My name is Takahashi.

    Humble self-introduction at work; swap in your own family name.

  • よろしくお願ねがいします。

    Yoroshiku onegai shimasu.

    I look forward to working with you.

    Closes any introduction; also used when asking someone to help you.

  • 分わからないことがあったら、聞きいてくださいね。

    Wakaranai koto ga attara, kiite kudasai ne.

    If there's anything you don't understand, just ask.

    What a senior colleague says to a newcomer; reply with はい、ありがとうございます。

  • お先さきに失礼しつれいします。

    Osaki ni shitsurei shimasu.

    Excuse me for leaving before you.

    Say it when you leave the office while others are still working.
