1Agreeing to these terms

These terms are an agreement between you and MEW IO LLC (“we” or “us”) about using Unsubtitled: our website at unsubtitled.com, the app inside it, and our apps for iPhone and Android when they arrive. By using Unsubtitled, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use it.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it. It’s part of these terms.

2Who can use Unsubtitled

You need to be at least 13, or older if your country sets a higher minimum age for using online services on your own. If you’re under 18, you need your parent’s or guardian’s permission, and they agree to these terms for you. You can’t use Unsubtitled if the law forbids you from using it.

3The service, in early access

Unsubtitled is a place to practice a language by talking with characters, out loud, through everyday situations. It’s in early access: free, with no sign-up, and still growing.

That means things will change. We may add, change, or remove scenes, characters, and features, and it may sometimes be unavailable. We’ll try to give notice before we take away something important.

4Accounts

When accounts arrive, you’ll sign in with Google or Apple. Keep that account secure, since whoever uses it can use Unsubtitled as you. Tell us at support@unsubtitled.com if you think someone else has gotten in. You can delete your account at any time.

5Using it well

The characters are written to be good company, and to react like real people. They play along with light teasing, but they push back on crude or hurtful remarks, and they can end a scene. Please don’t:

• use Unsubtitled to harass anyone, or for sexual, hateful, or violent content;
• try to trick the characters into saying harmful things, or get around the limits built into them;
• break the law with it, or help someone else do so;
• disrupt or overload the service, or get around its security, limits, or signed links;
• copy it, scrape it, or take it apart, except as the law lets you;
• collect its content to train or build a competing service or AI model;
• pretend to be someone else, or suggest we endorse you.

6What you write

What you write to the characters is yours. So that we can run Unsubtitled, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, copy, process, and use it to provide the service, keep it safe, and improve it, including by reading saved conversations to make the scenes better. We don’t use it to train AI models, and we don’t sell it. The license ends when we delete your content, except for copies we must keep by law.

Please don’t put anything in a conversation that you don’t have the right to share, or that you’d want to keep secret. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.

7What we make

The characters, their art, their voices, the scenes, and the Unsubtitled name and logo belong to MEW IO LLC and our licensors. We give you a personal, non-commercial, non-transferable license to use Unsubtitled for your own learning, which lasts as long as you follow these terms.

You’re welcome to share screenshots and short recordings of your own conversations. Please don’t sell them, use the art or characters in your own products, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you.

8The characters are AI

The characters’ lines, readings, translations, and suggested replies are written by AI as you talk. They can be wrong, sound unnatural, or miss something about the culture. The characters are fictional, not real people.

Unsubtitled is practice, not a certified course or professional advice. Please don’t rely on it for anything that really matters, like medical, legal, or safety information, or what to say in an emergency, and check anything important.

9Fees and purchases

Unsubtitled is free while it’s in early access. If we introduce paid plans, we’ll tell you the price and terms before you pay, and we’ll never charge you without your agreement.

If you buy something in our iPhone or Android app, Apple or Google handles the payment under its own terms, including subscriptions, cancellations, and refunds. Ask them for a refund.

10Other services

Unsubtitled relies on services from other companies, like your phone’s keyboard dictation, which Apple or Google provides under its own terms, and the providers listed in our Privacy Policy. We aren’t responsible for other companies’ services or websites, including any we link to.

11Stopping and suspension

You can stop using Unsubtitled at any time, and ask us to delete your data (see our Privacy Policy).

We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if it’s needed to protect people or the service, or if the law requires it. We may also stop offering Unsubtitled, and we’ll give reasonable notice if we do. The sections on what you write, what we make, disclaimers, liability, indemnity, and the law survive when these terms end.

To the extent the law allows, you’ll defend and compensate MEW IO LLC for claims, losses, and costs (including reasonable lawyers’ fees) that come from your breaking these terms or misusing Unsubtitled.

15The law and disputes

If something goes wrong, please write to support@unsubtitled.com first. Most problems can be sorted out that way, and we’ll try for at least 30 days before either of us goes further.

These terms are governed by the laws of California, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be decided by the state or federal courts in San Francisco County, California, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. If you’re a consumer living outside the United States, you keep the protections of your own country’s mandatory laws, and you may bring a claim in your local courts.

16Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Unsubtitled grows. We’ll post the new version here with its effective date, and tell you in Unsubtitled, or by email if we have your address, before a significant change takes effect. If you keep using Unsubtitled after that, you accept the new terms. If you don’t, you can stop using it and ask us to delete your data.

17If you got the app from an app store

Apple’s App Store

If you use our iPhone or iPad app, these terms also say:

• These terms are between you and MEW IO LLC, not Apple. We, not Apple, are responsible for the app and its content.
• Your license is to use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as the Usage Rules in Apple’s Media Services Terms and Conditions allow, including through Family Sharing.
• Apple has no obligation to provide any maintenance or support for the app.
• If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies to it, you can tell Apple, and Apple will refund what you paid for it, if anything. To the fullest extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
• We, not Apple, are responsible for any claims about the app, including product liability, failing to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, and consumer protection, privacy, or similar laws.
• If someone claims the app or your use of it infringes their intellectual property, we, not Apple, are responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging that claim.
• You confirm that you aren’t in a country under a US government embargo, or designated by the US government as supporting terrorism, and that you aren’t on any US government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
• You must follow any third-party terms that apply when you use the app, like your wireless carrier’s.
• Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms, and once you accept them, Apple may enforce them against you.

Google Play

If you use our Android app, Google Play’s terms and policies also apply to your download and to any purchases, including refunds. Google isn’t a party to these terms, and we, not Google, are responsible for the app.
