Open the scenes and tap one. Its preview shows where you are, who you're talking to, and the phrases worth knowing. Tap Start the scene, and the character speaks first. Reply in the box at the bottom and send when it reads right.

Yes: use your phone keyboard's microphone. On an iPhone, tap the microphone on the keyboard (turn on Dictation in Settings, General, Keyboard, if it isn't there). On Android, tap the microphone on Gboard. Set the keyboard to Japanese first, so it writes what you say in Japanese.

Your phone turns your speech into text. Unsubtitled never hears you; it only gets the words you send.

Tap the speaker on any of their lines to play it. If it's still silent, turn up the volume, make sure your phone isn't on silent, and close any other app that's playing sound. A browser sometimes holds the first line until you've tapped something; the speaker plays it any time.

They're in the sliders button at the top right of a scene: switch any of them back on. When one is off, a small button on each line opens it for just that line.

Scenes end the way real conversations do: when you say goodbye, when the two of you head somewhere else, or when it has run its course. Start over for another go, or pick a new scene.

Your conversations are saved as text, tied to an anonymous id for this browser, so we can run the app and make it better. We don't sell them, show you ads, or use them to train AI models. The Privacy Policy has the details.

Choose Delete my data in the form, from the phone or browser you practiced on, so we can find what it saved. Or email support@unsubtitled.com. We'll delete it and write back to confirm, within 30 days.
